No Extra Words welcomes different voices and would love to read submissions by any flash fiction author. Please note that we schedule episodes up to 6 months in advance.
There are only three submission guidelines. Stories should be:
1) Your own work to which you currently own rights. Previously published stories or those currently published online are welcome as long as you currently retain the rights to have your story recorded.
2) A work of fiction. Stories may be based on factual events but should be fictionalized. Stories may be in any genre except erotica or fanfiction (see intellectual freedom statement below.)
3) Short! This is a flash fiction podcast, so stories should be less than 2,000 words. Priority is given to stories less than 1,000 words. There is no minimum word count for stories.
To submit, please paste your entire story in the body of an email (unsolicited attachments will not be opened), put the word “Submission” in the subject line, and send to email@example.com. Don’t worry too much about formatting, we know what cut and paste does, just make it readable. Simultaneous submissions welcome, but please note our quick response time. One story per writer at a time, please. Once you hear back from us, you are welcome to send another piece.
No payment is offered for stories, but authors will be credited and publicized on our website. We read and respond to every submission and will do our best to get back to you within 3 weeks. Thank you for sharing your work!
Intellectual Freedom Statement: We believe literature has the power to bring new ideas to readers and we will not discriminate against stories because of the religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, or political philosophy of their authors and/or themes. Due to the special circumstances inherent in being an audio production, we are not the right market for erotica or sexually explicit stories. To assist our audience, we will give episodes with coarse language or mature themes an audio disclaimer indicating this. We reserve the right to keep some episodes family friendly. We respect the rights of copyright holders and have a zero tolerance policy for plagiarism (plagiarism is bad karma) and as such do not broadcast fanfiction or stories containing trademarked characters. Once selected, stories will not be edited in any way without advance consent by their authors.
